KODAVA MARRIAGE

Kodavas marriage have many cultural differences from the other communities in India. they do not call Brahman poojary for marriage ceremony, the marriage ceremony is conducted by their own elders. On wedding day, thick banana stems are chopped with a short Coorg sword to indicate that the groom’s party has fought and taken as many lives for the bride’s hand. Kodava weddings are one of a kind, filled with rich culture, beauty and more importantly eating, drinking and dancing, which is highly enjoyable.

Kodava groom wears an ornamental robe (housecoat) with fitted trousers and wears a “peeche kathi”, which is an ornamented dagger worn on the waist band. Bride wears a traditional sari draped in the typical Kodava style and a veil covers the bride’s head.
